What are the 3 most common failures in the 700R4 and what do you do to cure them?

What we see the most are: 1, The 3-4 clutches burnt, 2, The 2-4 band burnt and 3, The throttle valve sticking in the bore.
1.The 3-4 clutches usually burn from a low pressure situation. The low pressure is usually caused from the throttle cable not adjusted properly. So many people think this is a kick down cable as in theTH350 but this cable controls pressure in the transmission. Over time it can stretch and will need to be readjusted or replaced. For the street rodders we have come up with the Tru-Shift throttle correction system which is easy to install and provides the proper geometry through all throttle ranges.
2. The burnt band could be caused by a throttle cable also (refer back to #1), or an early style servo which uses scarf cut seals. We upgrade this servo to the later style which use a d style seal.
3. The throttle valve stuck in the bore was a common problem all the way back to when the 700R4 first came out. We install a small tickle spring in the valve body under this valve just to give it the little extra push to keep it from sticking deep in the bottom of the bore.
