I have a 1985 4WD Chevy with a TH400 and a 208 transfer case. Can I put in a 4L80E transmission and use my transfer case because the newer trucks have a transfer case that hangs on the opposite side?

Yes, using the adapter from the 4L80E the 208 will bolt up. If you are using a computer out of an original truck, you need to make sure the transmission has a rear exciter ring for the output speed sensor (some 4WD units didn't have this because they used the speed sensor in the transfer case). If you use our Compushift Controller and follow the instructions for 4WD low range, you can still use your speedo gear in the transfer case. You will have to shorten your rear drive shaft and lengthen your front one. This makes a nice overdrive conversion.
