I have a 727. Ever since I have had the car it wants to shift into 3rdway to soon. I have adjusted the shifting rod as far as it will go but it doesn't seem to make a difference. So I usually just shift it manually. When it goes into each gear it does hit each gear hard. So I am wondering if someone before me did something with the transmission.I would like for it to stay as stock as original but would also like it to shift good. Let me know what you. think.

Gil,
Something that you might try first is to have the governor checked out. The throttle rod controls the pressure in the transmission and will affect shift points but the governor senses road speed and if there is a spring missing or a valve stuck, the valve body thinks you are always at highway speed and wants to up shift right away. Then the shifts are hard because the rod is adjusted too tight
