Bowler’s All-in-One Harness for Your 6-Speed Transmission

Remember the good old days of wiring up your hot rod? You could get a small block engine running with 3 wires hooked up. Then with a handful of other connections your cassette deck was ready to blast your favorite hair band through your hand crank windows.

Fast forward to today, there’s touch start ignition, fuel injection, climate control, 5.1 channel surround sound, heated and cooled seats, power windows and locks, and the list goes on. It seems that most new builds require an engineering degree to decipher the electronics going on and the underside of the dash begins to look like the cassette that unwound itself halfway through your favorite 10-minute drum solo.

Even wiring up some of the new manual transmissions can be a daunting task. You have a harness for reverse lights, vehicle speed sensors, reverse lock out solenoids, and each of them requiring separate harnesses and connections. Here at Bowler Performance we decided enough is enough! We have engineered an all-in-one solution for your 6-speed Tremec Magnum transmission that allows for a simple 5 wire hook up to give you control over every function included on the transmission.

The Bowler All-In-One Harness utilizes a small, built in, epoxy sealed box that will control each of the 3 functions. It has power and grounding for each function through 2 switched +12v circuits and 1 wire connected to the negative battery post or engine block. Control of the reverse lockout solenoid is based on a user-defined speed setting.

This eliminates the need for a separate lock out control box which used to be the only option to activate the reverse lock out correctly. Currently most folks just simply connect their lock out solenoid to a momentary on/off switch such as the brake light switch to activate. This method will get the job done, but can over work the solenoid, and over time shorten its life span.

For your electronic speedometer, the All-In-One Harness is equipped with 2 speed sensor outputs. The speed sensor outputs generate a square wave signal that goes from about -5 to roughly +5 volts, varying in frequency as the speed changes. But what if your ECM input needs a positive only signal? No problem! The output will automatically shift and give you 0 to +10 volts. The 2 speed sensor outputs are completely independent and can be calibrated separately with any pulse count and ratio you want.

Therefore these two outputs should pretty much be able to drive any common speedometer, cruise control, or ECM. This will give you much greater flexibility in the components you are able to use and requires less time to wire everything up. The reverse lights are powered by a single output wire connected to the positive side of your reverse lights; grounding of those lights should be local to the bulb socket.

Now that you are thoroughly excited about the possibilities this harness can give you, let’s discuss how the user can define which settings he or she needs. We have an app for that! The harness is equipped with a Bluetooth chip that will connect to your smart phone along with an app we have developed for Apple or Android users. If you’re still working with a flip phone we will gladly set the harness up for you before sending it out. In the setup app, you can enter the expected number of pulses per driveshaft revolution for the speedometer or ECU being driven by the output. In addition, there is an adjustment that lets you modify that with a calibration ratio so that you can compensate for changes in tire size or final drive ratio.

So, as you can see, this single harness can replace several different pieces of equipment that you would have formerly needed to get all your transmission related functions to operate, thus leaving you more time to enjoy listening to your favorite hair band in all its 5.1 channel surround sound glory.
