The "OBS" or C1500 (as many of us older guys still call them) Chevy and GMC trucks have had a bit of a renaissance over the past few years.  We can still remember when they were new on dealer lots and we were thick into the Sport Truck days of the late 90's and early 2000's.  You know, back before everything was LS swapped and those old Vortec 5.7s were still reigning supreme.  Those trucks were as cool back then as they are today, and if you ask me, arguably one of the most comfortable to drive that GM has ever pushed out.  It was also a time where it was still easy enough to get one equipped with a manual transmission, albeit, likely with the 4.3 V6.  Fast forward some 20 years, with lots of advancements in engine technology and available transmissions to swap, and you've got the makings for an even better Sport Truck.  With all of this considered, and the release of the Tremec TKX 5 speeds, we felt it was time to create some new products to help make transmission swaps easier.

We are excited to announce the release of an aftermarket hydraulic master cylinder conversion package for the 1988-95 Chevy/GMC C1500 trucks and full size blazers to replace the OE hydraulic master cylinders. If you have a 96-98 model these are not a direct bolt in due to some firewall and pedal changes.

You may be wondering why it would be necessary to make this swap in the first place since all the OBS truck came with a hydraulic clutch system, but with the OE hydraulics there was only a small external slave cylinder that moved a traditional clutch fork rather than an internal release bearing that all the new manual transmissions use today.  Those external slave cylinders operate on a much smaller volume of fluid movement which means you only need a small bore and stroke master cylinder to pair with it.  Today's aftermarket release bearings that are used in many of the Tremec transmission conversions require a higher volume of fluid movement to achieve clutch release, and those OE master cylinders just can't provide the volume needed.  The conversion kit we've created utilizes the existing mounting location of the OE master cylinder and the OE clutch pedal to achieve the easiest swap possible without the need for any modifications to the truck.  This also allows us to retain the correct pedal geometry to maintain a soft pedal feel and steady, even clutch release during take off.

Our master cylinder kits come complete with all the lines, fittings, and hardware needed to complete the installation and connection to the hydraulic bearing along with the choice between a basic plastic fluid reservoir or upgraded black anodized billet aluminum reservoir for a more refined look.  Also, since we are an Elite Tremec distributor, we can outfit you with the complete transmission conversion package for any engine, even that old Vortec 5.7.
