If you’ve ever tried to find a “universal fit” part for your hot rod, we understand your pain. When we decided to build a hydraulic master cylinder kit that provided a universal fit to cover a wide range of applications, we knew we had to get it right. Our goal was to design a kit that would provide universal fit, yet look like it was built for your specific application. We started by asking, “how would you build this if you could build it any way you wanted to?” The result is an easy solution to add a hydraulic clutch master cylinder to your firewall!
The kit is designed and built around a top-of-the-line Tilton 78 master cylinder. This master cylinder uses a rear spherical bearing mount and a one-piece piston/pushrod. It virtually eliminates the chance of side load on the piston bore, which gives you a wider range of misalignment in connection to the clutch pedal. Bowler’s kit also includes a beautifully machined aluminum mounting system finished in a black anodize. There’s also a black anodized billet remote reservoir, stainless steel braided lines, all required fittings, and a clutch pedal pushrod with a spherical rod end.
This master cylinder kit has a two-piece plate mounting system designed to fit best on a flat firewall. The mounting system sandwiches the mounting surface between these two plates, creating a solid foundation to press against. This eliminates the chance that the attachment hardware will pull through the firewall or mounting surface during spirited driving! Because of the amount of misalignment adjustment we’ve factored into the mounting surfaces, our kit also includes a brush seal. This keeps dirt and debris from getting into the vehicle. You can easily adjust the included 3.75-inch left- and right-hand threaded pushrod out to find the perfect length. If you need a shorter application, it’s also easy to trim down. We recommend a 6:1 final pedal ratio for the best pedal feel and performance.
The Tilton 78 master cylinder we based this master cylinder kit on pairs well with a variety of slave cylinders and release bearings. We find the best performance and repeatability when it’s used with one of the Tilton 6000 series hydraulic release bearings. The master cylinder is built with a 13/16ʺ bore and 1.1ʺ stroke. Meanwhile, the body is machined billet aluminum, finished with a special low-friction coating to minimize wear and give you a smooth operation. Each unit is hand-built and blueprinted for cut-off port travel.
Bowler Universal Hydraulic Master Cylinder Kit
With the rising popularity of five- and six-speed transmission swaps, we’re hearing more questions about how to actuate the clutch. Every day, more cars and trucks are losing the old three- and four-speeds in favor of an overdrive. In these situations, many people don’t have the ability to use the factory mechanical linkage anymore. That’s why we knew we needed to create this universal master cylinder kit. When you need a hydraulic solution for a vehicle that doesn’t have a specific fitment available, we’ve got what you need. If you have any questions about this master cylinder kit and whether it’s right for your car, give us a call. We’re always happy to help you bring your project to life with the best equipment out there.
